Greetings, and thank you for viewing my site! My name is Jonathan Leibowitz, a freelance interpreter. I started interpreting because I believe that people should be able to spread their knowledge and message to anyone who wants to hear it, regardless of language. When I work with someone, I want to know them, and what their message is about. My goal is to transcend simply memorizing technical terms and providing the role of a human ChatGPT. I hope that we can work together on a project so that your voice can reach across the Pacific, to and from Japanese and English speakers.
My name is Jon.
I am an American born and raised in New York and currently living in Kobe. I have loved anime and Japanese culture since high school, and studied abroad at Kobe University for a year during my second year of college. I was interested not only in traditional Japanese culture, but also in Japanese thought and social ideals. I continued to study with the belief that by learning more deeply about Japan and the Japanese language, I might be able to understand myself and the world better, and finally decided to start working as an interpreter. By interpreting, I feel like I can take many people on an adventure to understand myself and the world, and I truly feel that it is a very meaningful role.
Outside of interpreting, my hobbies include chess, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, breathing exercises and meditation, and traveling around the Kansai region. I am particularly interested in the fields of medicine and mental health. I believe that there are many people around the world, including in Japan, who suffer from mental illnesses, and many who are struggling to keep up with the rapid changes that continue in modern times. In the future, if there is any information or message that would be useful to such people, I would like to play an active role in conveying it without language barriers.
